David Makoto Parks (1969-2016)

Partner David Makoto Parks joined the firm in 2007 after working as a sole practitioner in Ithaca. David has also worked as an assistant public defender and as an assistant district attorney. His main areas of practice include civil and criminal litigation, real estate and related litigation.

David is a member of the New York State and Tompkins County bar associations and is admitted to practice in New York State courts and in the Western and Northern Districts of New York (federal court).

Some of David’s successful “Not Guilty” verdicts after a Jury Trial include Negligent Homicide, Assault, Arson, Rape, Grand Larceny, and DWI cases. David has recently represented several local teachers accused of crimes. Both of those cases resulted in “Not Guilty” verdicts. Some of David’s successful appeals to the Appellate Division Third and Fourth Departments include the following reversals: 1st degree Gang Assault; 2nd degree Burglary; 2nd degree Robbery; 1st degree Gang Assault and 2nd degree Assault; 2nd degree vehicular assault; 1st degree sodomy; and several possession or sale of a controlled substance and DWI cases.

David has represented Cornell University and Ithaca College students accused of violating the Code of Conduct and Cornell’s Policy 6.4 (sexual assault and sexual harassment policy).

David also represents clients in motor vehicle accident cases, premises liability, Labor Law and other personal injury cases. He has achieved recoveries ranging from $100,000 to $750,000.
