Jeff joined the firm in March 2008 and became a partner in 2016. His practice presently includes a wide variety of civil matters, contract drafting and litigation, estate planning and contested probate proceedings, evictions and other landlord-tenant disputes, and criminal defense. Jeff also has experience representing local municipalities, in defending against Cornell University Title IX proceedings and investigations involving Cornell's Judicial Administrator's Office, and in 2017 will begin assisting as special counsel to the Tompkins County Assessment Office litigating commercial tax certiorari cases.
Jeff's legal career path started in 1996 while finishing his undergraduate degree as an intern with the Department of Probation & Parole in Raleigh, North Carolina, followed by an internship with the City-County Bureau of Identification. He then worked as an office assistant at the Law Firm of Roper and Associates, who later trained him to be a full-time title research paralegal. As a student at the Syracuse University School of Law, Jeff interned with the Onondaga County District Attorney's office and with the New York City Law Department, continuing there as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in their torts division after graduation and until 2005. He also previously worked as an associate with the Camardo Law Firm, PC, in Auburn, NY, and counseled criminal defendants through the Tompkins County Assigned Counsel Program office.
A few of Jeff's successes include: "not guilty" verdicts in both felony and misdemeanor trials; "Closed w/o action": findings in DWI test refusal license revocation proceedings; "Summary Judgment" in breach of contract actions; as well as, summary judgment decisions, or otherwise favorable results in dozens if not hundreds of civil actions during his practice.
In the law, almost every situation is unique. Not every case can be won easily, and not every fight is necessarily worth the cost. But sometimes, you must fight. Jeff aims to use his guidance and experience to help craft appropriate and strategic solutions for his clients' individual needs and circumstances. Jeff is admitted to practice in all New York State Courts, as well as both the United States District Court, Northern District and Western District.
Jeff also has been playing in rock bands since at least 1995, some of which were pretty good and should have gone a lot farther if only for (mumble mumble)... ask him about it, if you have half an hour or so to kill.
